Commonly Asked Questions
Can I use screw-in Standard CFL bulbs with my dimmers?
Most Standard screw-in (self-ballasted) CFLs are not dimmable as stated on their packages. You have to use Dimmable CFL light bulbs on standard dimmers. If you don't it can cause the lamp and/ or the
dimmer to fail.
What about the screw-in CFLs that say they are dimmable?
We recommend using them with standard incandescent dimmers with the exception of Lutron dimmers
Why can I dim my incandescent bulb but not my CFL?
A dimming screw-in CFL, like any fluorescent light bulb, requires a ballast to make it work. The ballast needs to be small to fit inside the base of the screw-in dimming CFL; because of the ballast’s size, some of the required components for dimming are left out, which results in poor performance when used with a dimmer. In contrast, an incandescent light bulb doesn’t require a ballast to make it work.
Are there any energy-saving alternatives to using CFL that dims?
Yes, you can use halogen bulbs instead. They are more energy efficient than standard
incandescent bulbs, provide excellent light quality, and are fully dimmable with all Standard dimmers. However, they are not as energy efficient as Dimmable Compact Fluorescent Bulbs.

Credits or refunds issued will be for the item value. Any taxes charged will be refunded in accordance with state laws. Shipping and handling charges are nonrefundable.
