Growing Indoors can be Fun for Kids

Indoor growing is a great way to educate kids  about plants and living a healthy lifestyle. There are a lot fun activities they can do indoors and learn if they have a green thumb.

Indoor gardening projects for children are also useful to keep them busy during cold months when outdoor growing is not possible. Growing plants is an activity they do all year long.

Tomatoes and lettuce are healthy ingredients in sandwiches and salad. Growing lettuce and tomatoes indoors is easy and also keeps children’s attention and they become curious about plants. You can grow these vegetables indoors in a a lot of ways.  You can use old pots, pans, and even empty egg shells to start the growing process .

A simple technique to sprout lettuce and tomatoes is to place the plant seeds on a wet paper towel which you can out on a regular plate. Ideally the tomatoes seeds should be sprinkled on one half of the paper towel three days and then planted in whatever growing medium you plan to use. Keep the plant in a well lit area  or if you do not have enough sun light you need indoor garden lights for the plants.  If you use a grow light, I recommend using a fluorescent or LED grow light.  If you are growing just a few plants, only a small indoor garden light is needed.  Small plant lights cost anywhere from $30 to $60.  It seems expensive but will last several year and cost about the same as video game.  The kids can snip off the tomatoes and pull of lettuce leaves for their sandwiches and salads.  This will create excitement and they will be on their way for a great education and a more healthy diet.
