If you want to grow food to save your hard earned money, growing indoors is a good idea, even people with a small area can grow enough to save a 50 to 300 dollars a year at the super market, and with medium growing areas you can easily save 500 to 1,000 dollars at the current crazy prices (oh yes, last week I spent $2.35 for one zucchini, which was grown in Mexico of all places).
When deciding what to plant for saving money, you need to consider a few different issues. What indoor plant light do I use? How difficult is the plant to grow (herbs grow really well)? How much does the food you buy differ from what you regularly eat cost at the store? Does the food product keep well? How much of the vegetable or fruit does your family eat? ( I only eat a tomato once a week so I don’t bother growing those). How much space do you have available compared to your plants needs? Do you grow significantly better quality then what you buy at the supermarket? Once you answer these questions, you will start seeing a little more green in your wallet.
